Clairlea Neighbourhood Association

Our community is bounded by Eglinton Avenue, St. Clair Avenue, Warden Avenue and Victoria Park Avenue; this year we are planning a membership drive to take in the area south of St. Clair to Donside ... (more) Drive and east of Victoria Park to Pharmacy Avenue.

Initially we became involved in community matters as a direct response to development plans for the Warden Avenue ‘brown-fields’ and a factory site at Victoria Park Avenue and St. Clair Avenue East. As we became more and more involved in the realities of dealing with vested interests and the political process we realized that we needed to articulate a rational approach to redevelopment, intensification, infrastructure, environment, and all that it encompasses; we also decided to work in cooperation with other groups such as the Santa Monica Birchmount Neighbourhood Association and the Warden Woods West Resident’s Association because we felt, “together we can make a difference.”

Over the last two plus years we have been involved in every aspect of the ‘Warden Corridor’ development, participating in design charrettes, attending OMB hearings, council meetings and working closely with the City planning department and the Ward 35 Councillor’s office.

These efforts have yielded tremendous results and prove the value of a close, apolitical relationship between community representatives and elected officials. We believe we can continue to move forward, remain committed to our respective communities, and continue to find solutions to neighbourhood based issues.
