Bettering the lives of all citizens

Parks and open spaces, along with streets and public buildings, are a significant part of the City of Toronto’s public realm. Together, these elements of the public realm unify our diverse communities and convey the ‘personality’ or image of the city and its neighbourhoods.

The public parkland system is home to numerous facilities and amenities. These include:

Community Centres

  • 136 community centres

Swimming Facilities

  • 281 indoor and outdoor pools
  • 11 swimming beaches, including 7 “blue flag” beaches

Sports Facilities

  • 839 sports fields
  • 756 tennis courts
  • 121 indoor arenas and outdoor ice rinks
  • 5 municipal golf courses
  • 2 alpine skiing centres

Green Spaces

  • 47 allotment & community gardens
  • 40 hectares of horticultural displays
  • 8 greenhouses & 3 conservatories
  • 3 animal farms
  • 1 urban farm
  • 2.5 million trees

Children’s Facilities

  • 833 playgrounds
  • 17 children’s learning gardens

All facilities are available to the public and serve to better the lives of all citizens!
