As Chair of the Disability Issues Committee, Adrian has worked with various advocacy groups and the Committee to achieve major changes in the way the City of Toronto provides services for persons with disabilities. Whether pushing for better access to city services, opening up more recreational opportunities, or  working towards equal transportation costs, Adrian and the Committee have made significant progress in the last few years.

In the spirit of these efforts, Adrian would like to highlight a heart-warming story sent to us by Ward 35 resident, Fred Worsley. Fred wrote to share his nomination of his friend, Jim Crawford, as Canada’s Most Passionate Golfer.

Fred writes:

My friend Jim went blind about 2 years ago. An avid golfer all of his adult life, to think his “life” was over was unbearable. We joined Ontario Visually Impaired Golfers (OVIG) and hesitantly last year we began to play together. This year he can’t wait to get out on the golf course again. This has given him a very large and important part of his life back and I have been inspired by his tremendous passion to restore his “game” to the level it once was. His passion to encourage City of Toronto Golf Courses to accommodate Blind/ VI golfers on their courses is ongoing and the City’s cooperation has been astounding! Jim is one of the most deserving of this award, due to his passion for the game of golf and his ability to inspire others to do the same.

Jim’s story serves as an inspiration to us all, and Adrian is looking forward to hearing more success stories like this in the future.
