Information on the Winter Warmth program

The struggle to meet all of your financial commitments can sometimes mean that you find yourself a little short when the time comes to pay your electricity or natural gas bill. If you’ve recently had difficulty paying, or are concerned about making your next payment, Winter Warmth may be able to help you.

Winter Warmth is designed for low-income families and individuals living at/or below the poverty line who have exhausted all other sources of financial support. Each Winter Warmth season, the approved households receive a one-time grant.

Upon successful completion of the application process, the funds will be credited to your heating bill. It’s peace of mind during the long winter season – and it can go a long way to getting your energy bill back under control.

Who qualifies for Winter Warmth?
Availability of funding from Winter Warmth is limited to individuals from low-income households that satisfy at least one or more of the following conditions:

  • Have energy bills that are currently in arrears;
  • Have recently received a disconnection notice;
  • Are experiencing personal circumstances that make it difficult to pay their current energy bill.

Where do I apply for Winter Warmth Assistance?
Residents of Ward 35 should contact the Scarborough Housing Help Centre (located at Kennedy Rd and Lawrence Ave), at (416) 285-8070 ext. 306

Winter Warmth is coordinated by a network of community agencies through the United Way and is sponsored by Burlington Hydro, Enbridge Gas Distribution, Enersource Hydro Mississauga, Horizon Utilities Corporation, Hydro One, Hydro Ottawa Limited, Oakville Hydro, PowerStream, Toronty Hydro-Electric System Limited, Union Gas, and Veridian Connections.
